Horror Movies... Phew!

Good morning (or afternoon, or evening) people!

I am not one to watch a horror movie (any horror movies) without closing my eyes in between the scenes using my hands, or a pillow, or a blanket. I was never known for my bravery (cause I have none - get it?). However, I'd like to get over this cowardice (if I could - haha).

I'm currently at my sister's, helping out with her newly established business (rice - come and buy some!). So, during the few weeks I've been here, I've been challenged (mentally) with horror movies at most nights by my nephew and nieces (Yes - I am an aunt who has nephews and nieces almost my age).

I've remembered the first movie we've watched while I was here.... It was "Sinister".

As my first horror movie in a long time, I've really tried to 'act' brave, but it wasn't a really pleasant experience. I end up dreaming about the movie at midnight (nightmare), though it was an alternate version of it, with me as a side actress who was killed in action (haha).

Then, a stream of horror movies followed suit after that:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/2d/Insidious_poster.jpg/220px-Insidious_poster.jpg

You could probably guess my posture while watching most of these movies:

Our general positions in front of the TV (or laptop).

I don't know if I'm braver now, or if the last movie I've watched was just a really lousy horror movie. However, I found 'Insidious' to be more funny than scary (yay me!).

Maybe... it has something to do with us relating the culprits in each movies with each of us, and to our surroundings (funnily). There's 'Mr. Boogie' in the 'Sinister', 'Batsheba', 'Rory', and 'Annabelle' in 'The Conjuring', 'Jonah' in 'Haunting in Connecticut', 'Mr. Gordy' in 'Haunting in Connecticut 2', 'Emily Rose' in the 'Exorcism of Emily Rose', 'Abyzou' in the 'Possession', 'The Breaker', etc. in '13 Ghosts', 'Mama' in 'Mama', and unknown entities in 'Insidious'.

There were times when things happened at home that could scare us out of our wits, but when morning comes, things can always be explained to senses.

There was that night when the lamp above the stairs suddenly flickered in the middle of the night. I opened my eyes to see it flickered for a while, then immediately closed my lids as tight as possible. That way, I won't be seeing things that I might've just imagined. I'm safe as long as I'm under the cover (haha).

There was also that other night when the lamp inside the car I was driving suddenly flickered. Thank God, 2 of my nieces were inside with me, or I would've step hard on the accelerator and speed home (haha).

Anyway, I'm sure that most of you are way braver than me. Shame on me (haha). I'll catch up on you soon!

It's not as easy...

I bid you "Hello!", fellow earthlings.

It has been so long... in fact, it has been too long since I've last posted anything on this humble little blog-site of mine. I've always thought that I'd be able to type/share as much posts as I wanted after I've dealt with all my study-related matters.

How wrong I was.

It's not as easy as I thought to actually click on the 'new post' button, and start typing away. It's as if I've lost my mojo, my groove, my inspiration - or whatever you'd normally call it - to blog. It's depressing to be in this situation, sometimes. I'd sit there, somewhere, watching something, anything... and my mind will wander about every little possibilities. If I had actually wrote down these 'stuffs' playing in my mind, I could probably stand a chance of publishing my own book(s).

Who knows?

So... how have you been?

Pardon me. Where's my manners? I should have asked this early on... but, there you have it. How are you? I'm being such an anti-social, aren't I? Blame it on the speed of the internet. Especially, at my humble little village. The internet is close to being nonexistent! How is that still possible? It's the.... 21st (?) century! Internet should be available everywhere - high on top of the mountain, deep inside the forest!

Anyway, it's midnight now and I'm in serious need of my beauty sleep. However, there's so much to blog about! I'll hold these thoughts, and hope to be more inspired to blog more tomorrow... or the day after tomorrow... or someday.

Hah! Who am I kidding?

Take care for now!

Spread the love, people :)

Do you know how good it feels to do something good to another?

It feels SO GOOD!

Anyway, it's Valentine's Day today. I'm not really sure of the real fact, but one legend told the story of a priest called Valentine who served a long time ago in Rome. Apparently, when the emperor during that time decided that single men are better soldiers as to compared with those with wives, and families, he banned marriage for young men. This was obviously a ridiculous injustice. So, Valentine, set against the decree of the emperor decided to ignore him, and continued to wed young lovers in secret. Soon when this matter was discovered, the emperor ordered Valentine a death sentence.

It's just a legend, so don't hold to that.

For me personally, I think of Valentine's day as a day to remember that love prevails. It's true that every day can be a celebration of love, but people tends to put more effort if we actually set a date on it. So, why not Valentine's? It even got a nice story to it.

I was supposed to do a charity with few friends from the Christian Union today. They've bought a 1000 gift hearts to give to random strangers on the street with bible verses on them. Sadly, due to some last minute changes in my timetable, I will not be free until after 2 pm  so I wasn't able to join them for this good deed. I was really sad, but I won't fret much. It was amazing enough that they were able to do such nice things for the sake of love today.

Then, in the afternoon, when I was about to go back home, a friend of mine who's finally picking up Christianity again after abandoning it for a very long time, told me that she's going to a Bible study session, and asked if I wanted to come along.

I said "Yes!".

We had a really good read, and discussion on Luke 7:36-50. It really touches me how this sinner of a prostitute was able to have so much faith in Jesus, believing that she'll be forgiven even after the enormous sin that she bear. Added to the faith is an extravagant devotion towards Jesus, and I can't even compare to her. In a way, I was celebrating Valentine's day by learning about this faith, and love towards Jesus. It was amazing.

Later that evening, I went to a couple of friends' flat, and had a really good, pancake date with one more of their flatmates. One whom I've just gotten to know that night. (p/s; my Canadian guy friend made the pancake for us. It was like "pancake 101 with insert name here"). Then, after a couple of hours lounging at their flat, I went to an International Pudding Party organized by the Christian Union. I was an hour late, but I got to chat with some old and new friends during the party. (I had enough pancake, so I didn't help myself for any puddings). It was a good social, and at the same time, a good sharing of Jesus, and the mission's week that's currently ongoing in my university.

Finally, on my way home, I've stopped by a convenient store to withdraw some cash, and planned to buy some foods for myself. Then, I saw this homeless guy, sitting by the door with his dog.

It was such a sight...

Having bought some foods, I went out of the store, and stopped for a while to look at him. Thinking that I had received so much love for the day, I handed him the plastic bag that I was holding, with all the foods I've just bought inside. I guess, Jesus was driving me to spread some love tonight, and guess what? I felt so good! It was such a satisfying feeling to be able to do something nice for a change.

Better, when it's because of Jesus.

If you are feeling down anytime later, try to do something good to another. It doesn't have to be something big, but it'll give you so much satisfaction. It's a good therapy. It works for me!

Busy

I'd really love to write a couple or so blog entries right now, but I've too much work, that I'm feeling guilty once I've started spending more time writing on my blog rather than writing on my thesis.
I'll be free in June. Hope to write more then. Take care everybody :)

Traveling, and spending all my ££

I went for a couple of one week's vacation during the holiday, so I'm officially broke. However, I'd like to update on my traveled and dusted list.

1) Munich, Germany
2) Salzburg, Austria
3) Albstadt, Germany
4) Feldberg (Black Forest), Germany
5) Barcelona, Spain
6) Granada, Spain
7) Cordoba, Spain
8) Sevilla, Spain
9) Malaga, Spain

I'm happy to be able to travel to all these places while I still can, but I obviously have to face the aftermath.

1) Less time to study and do my research
2) Less money to shop

2013

It's a new year, so we may not know what's waiting ahead of us. I can't really wish all of you a "happy" new year, since regardless of anything, it's not possible of being happy throughout every seconds, days, weeks, or months on this new year. However, I can wish these;

May we all be treated nicely by the years ahead of us. May we survived each morning to see the smile of our loved ones. May we remember God all the time. May we learn how to be happy at little things that occur in our daily lives.

Peace :)

(30DBC) Day 30- A photograph of town/city you lived in.

Jambatan Tamparuli.

This is a very famous bridge at the town I lived in. It's not even that amazing of a structure, but it has a song to it called exactly as it is; "Jambatan Tamparuli".

(30DBC) Day 29- If I were to fall for my neighbor, I would..

It's IMPOSSIBLE!

Though, if we are just talking hypothetically, I would... I would not fall for my neighbor! It's just impossible. I couldn't even imagine what would happen if I do. Ugh!

I'm sorry that I couldn't handle this question better. Ha ha ha.

See you another day :)

28 Dec 2012

(30DBC) Day 28- What is my typical day like?

Holla!

I usually woke up a couple of hours before my earliest class for the day. So, that will usually depend on my university timetable. I'll take a warm shower, eat my breakfast, and just lounge in front of my laptop doing nothing particularly productive.

I'll go to class, and try hard to understand the content of the lectures. Ha ha ha. If I don't have any school visit, or anything else, I will usually rush back home. Once I'm home, I'd wash my face, change into my pajama, and do anything that's not really productive. These activities vary from gaming (on my mobile phone), sleeping, cooking/eating, surfing the net, streaming videos, reading, and many other stuffs.

I'll take a shower a few hours before bed, and will usually spend an hour or more on bed gaming before I actually sleep at night.

The cycle continues the next day. :)

My Idea of "Near-death Experience"

I could barely see anything in front of me, except for the hazy signs in blue. The wind was very strong, and the snowstorm lashes at my naked face violently. I’m starting to regret being up here, when I suddenly heard him calling out to my friend, “June, lai.” I’m no Chinese, but I think that he’s encouraging her to go further than the orange fence. I turned to look at them, and I saw more people were gearing up to brave the harsh weather. I know that if we don’t follow suit, we won’t make it to the base in time…

I jumped up from my sleep when I heard my alarm goes off from behind the door. I left it outside to charge when I went to bed last night since we’ll be leaving for a day trip today. Half a battery won’t last until the evening, and I don’t want to risk a chance of not being able to contact anyone if anything might happen during the trip. One by one, everyone else woke up, and we got ready in record time. Probably the shortest time we’ve ever taken to get ready since we’ve started with this vacation together. Truth to be told, I was pretty nervous about this whole trip after the whole accident involving me banging my face on a wall while biking downhill. If I don’t know any better, I’d say that I’ve adopted a phobia of cruising at full speed downhill.

We’ve changed trains, and buses for a total of six times in the last four hours, but the end was worth it. The scenery at the ski resort just took my breath away. That was my first time seeing so much snow at one place, live. I’ve became as excited as I was nervous when we start walking to hire our ski equipment. We’ve wrestled for an hour inside the shop, and finally came out fully armored. When Chester asked us if we wanted to hire a ski instructor, we were undecided. 32 euros sounds like a lot of money for a ski instructor. Well, I hate to be undecided when it comes to matters regarding money. Luckily, he offered to coach us for a little bit before we actually make up our minds. Thank GOD for him being so nice to us.

From where I was standing, skiing looks easy enough. Heck. A toddler can even do it amazingly! Confusingly, when Chester told us what to do, I couldn’t quite get what he meant by putting a 100 percent of our weight on one leg only, or, by trusting the hard part of our ski shoes, or by trusting ourselves. I’ve never trusted anyone or anything more than I do myself, but I just couldn’t find it in me today. Plus, what’s the hard part of my ski shoes? I thought that every part of my shoes was hard, that they were hurting me so much! Though, I wouldn’t tell him that, would I? He can be pretty vicious, and he looked as if he can skin us alive at this moment.

We’ve practiced more after our lunch, and skiing proves to be too extreme for Kelly. I wouldn’t blame her for that since I knew that sports are not her cup of tea. However, I must say that I was surprised at Chester’s willingness at letting her watch by the side, giving up entirely on learning how to ski. I’ve learned later on that he’d actually let her fell on her back all the way to the bottom of the slope to make sure that she’d experienced the true way of skiing before finally seeing how fragile Kelly can be. I’m pretty sure that he would have at least felt a little guilty about treating our baby sister like that, enough to stop pushing her to ski.

Now that he had less one student to think about, he’s becoming less stressed, more excited, and enthusiastic. That’s one part of it, and the other half could probably because we were showing much improvement compared to earlier. We could easily crab-walk to a higher ground now, but that doesn’t mean that it was not tiring. I might have probably lost at least a couple of pounds there and then. Ah… You must be wondering what a crab-walk is. Actually, it’s a form of walking sideways against the slope with our skis on to keep our balance. It looks a lot like a crab walking at the beach, hence the name.

The snow showers had started then, and when I thought that we finally had enough for the day, and ready to go back, Chester suddenly proposed a pretty unbelievable idea. I might even call it crazy if I didn’t saw the determination in his face. I looked at Jen, June, then Diana, all blinking hard while profusely shaking their heads. “No Chester. We are still too scared to go up there. Plus, the weather doesn’t look so good.” I’ve tried to reason with him. June picked up her ski poles, and made a cross sign, showing that she’s in agreement with me. “You wouldn’t have this chance anymore. Would you miss it now?” He was just too determined. I don’t remember how long did it take for him to convince us for this crazy idea of going to the top of the hill and ski down, but he did.

“Ah…but, it looks like the ski lift is closing now, so I’m not really sure if we can still make it up there,” he mumbled while skiing away. June and I looked at each other, simultaneously let out a breath of relief, and laughed. I have never expected that I would be very relieved to hear that from him. However, the joy was short-lived when he excitedly signaled us to approach him at the counter shortly after. We skied slowly, trying to drag as much time as possible, and I just knew that this is not going to be a good start. I looked up the snowy hill and thought; what mess have I gotten myself into this time?

“Wait! I’m trying to cover my face with my scarf here.” The snow shower that was once innocent turned into a hellish storm. Chester was giving out instructions to both June and I up here. The feeling was very foreign as to compared with our earlier lessons, where I can feel the pressure choking me, and the fear engulfing me. The fact that I do not have any idea of what might be waiting for us in the fog had me chilled to the bone. I was starting to regret my decision, when I’ve suddenly remembered Chester telling us to trust him while we were still sitting inside the cable car. So, I trust him with my life now, and I believe that he’ll lead us back to the base in one piece.

One followed by another, the other skiers went down in full speed. I skied once, twice, stopped, and looked back. June was still having trouble balancing on the steep hill. I skied more, stopped, and looked back. Not much improvement, except for now she’s falling towards the orange fences at the side. I wish I could help with anything, but if Chester couldn’t do anything except to talk her through, then I don’t think I can do any better. The pattern repeats for a few time, until in the end, there were only the three of us now. I stared blankly across the horizon, and realized in panic that it was getting really dark. It’s almost similar to the one they've shown in dramas, except that nobody was watching us being stranded up here.

The ski lifts slowed down to a halt, and Chester skied towards me. “I’m very worried that we wouldn’t make it in time now. Now I really regret bringing you two up here. Yvonne will really scold me for keeping all of you away for so long. I’m really sorry.” My heart thumped louder, as his words hit a spot.  I can feel my blood being drained off my face. What was that feeling? He can’t be panicking now. We were relying on him to keep us safe, so he needs to pretend that he was okay even if he was not. I was seriously really worried by that time, and the fact that I could still see nothing at the bottom of the slope did nothing to ease the turmoil in my emotion.

Would we really be stranded at this resort tonight? How much do we have to spend then? Where would we sleep? What about our trip to Zurich tomorrow? Will our plans be cancelled then? So many questions flooded into my brain, but funny, I’ve never thought of the possibility that I could meet an accident and die there. Maybe it was all because of the fact that I’ve led them through a prayer earlier. An amusing prayer, according to them, since it sounded more like a conversation with God at the train station compared to a very spiritual chanting, or anything of that sorts.

Seeing that it’ll be too slow to take the beginner route, Chester proposed for us to take the intermediate route. Obviously, for it to be faster, the hill has to be steeper, and it was. God, I was very scared. I was a beginner for God sake! I have never touched a ski ever before in my life, and I’ve only just learned a few hours ago how to ski down a slope with loads of tumbling, falling, and banging. I can’t believe the whole idea of actually doing this, but we’ve got no other choice. I was skiing alright, but when I felt that I was too fast for my good, I turned right to brake, and ended up skiing right to the edge of the route, to the dangerous part.

I stumbled, and turned a full 360 degree turn, laid on the ice for a while, dragged my sorry butt, and got up to ski again. I’ve made a few zigzags, and at one turn, I’ve actually dropped a ski. I wonder if the fall was too hard, and the pressure was making the ski binding to lose its’ lock on my shoes. Chester skied towards me to help, but putting on the ski on that very steep hill proves to be harder than it seems. Since June had adopted a new skiing skill, she zoomed past us at an amazing speed, and I can only gaped in awe at her. For a second she was just next to us, and afterwards, she was suddenly at the bottom of the slope.

I on the other hand was still having problem with my skis. Once when they were finally on again, I’ve tried using June’s skill, but ended up lying down on the snow more often than not. All the adrenaline rush was wearing off, and I can feel myself giving up when a snowmobile suddenly turned up out of nowhere. Thankfully, Chester can easily converse in German with the guys on the mobile to give me a lift. I would be happy to just sit inside the basket at the back of the mobile, but the driver asked his passenger to walk down instead. He helped me out of my skis, and lifts me up onto his passenger seat. I never felt more pampered that whole day.

We’ve zoomed past Chester and June towards the base, and I can’t thank him enough for being my prince charming on a white horse. When I jumped off the mobile, I saw Jen with a grave look on her face, rushing towards me. I motioned her towards June who was skiing slowly towards us, and she quickly ran to take her in her arms. Then, Kelly came out from the base with red nose, and eyes. I knew straight away that she had been really worried to the extent of crying. I went and hug her, hoping that I could at least ease her fear. “We are back. We are fine now.”

Inside, we took off our hats, scarves, shoes, socks, gloves, and coats, and I must say that they’ve almost turned into ice. We can hardly tell the difference. Chester came through the door, hugging the two of us straight away. All the time, he kept on saying sorry. I could be angrier for putting our lives in danger, but I’m not. I know that he will keep us safe, and he did. He’s a man that we can trust. When everything was settled at the base, we ran quickly to the bus stop to catch a bus to the train station with our fingers crossed. It was pretty late by then, and we were not sure if we’d make it in time. Luckily, God was with us all the time.

On our journey back home, I was glad that we didn’t have to change as much trains as we did in the morning because I was thoroughly beat. Judging from the way we’ve stumbled and fell, June and I could have easily broken a leg or two, or even our neck, but we didn’t. Though it felt like a near-death experience, it was a very valuable one. Having survived that, I felt as though we are now invincible. I would want to go out skiing again, but next time, I’ll be more prepared.

(30DBC) Day 26- What you think about your friends

Hello!

I think that I have amazing friends.

That's all. :)

24 Dec 2012

(30DBC) Day 24- A letter to your ex

Dear Ex,

I'm sorry that we were not meant together. I'm sorry that you've lost me. I'm sorry that we've lost contact. Heck. How could that even happen? It was ridiculous. Oh well. We were just kids who know nothing better. I've long forgotten you, and I wouldn't even bother writing to you if it's not because of this blog challenge. Haha! Anyway, have a good life.

Best,
Me

(30DBC) Day 23- Something you crave for a lot

Right now, I really wanted to eat "Chicken Katsu Curry" from Tampopo. You wouldn't understand this crave if you've never tasted this heavenly dish while you were starving.

This photo was taken at Wagamama, but it'll do. Chicken Katsu Curry looks generally like this. :)

(30DBC) Day 22- A fitness regime

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe that I'll be talking about fitness regime today.

Anyway, I'll try;

So, as a start... I walk to my university, to the city center, or pretty much anywhere around Bristol by foot.

From my flat to uni, I'll have to climb up a pretty steep hill called the "Ninetree Hill", and the walk will take roughly 15-20 minutes long.

My flat to the center will take roughly an 8-12 minutes walk, so it's all good. However, the most excruciating part was when I have to walk back after doing my groceries shopping. I was always tempted to call for a taxi.

I will have to walk for about 25-30 minutes from my flat or my university for my primary school's visit. This will of course include some hills too.

Sometimes when I've realized that I've been sitting too much on my chair, I'll stand up and do a little silly dance while watching a show on the internet.

Yeap! That would be my kind of fitness regime. Hehe :p

20 Dec 2012

(30DBC) Day 20- Favorite color, and why.

Ola!

I really love red, and pink. Why? I don't know why. They just suit me more than the other colors.

I think, red (especially flaming red) shows a lot of pride, and courage. Whilst pink resembles more of a lady's virtue. Taking these into considerations, maybe that's why I love them. :)

19 Dec 2012

(30DBC) Day 19- Nicknames you have; why do you have them

Hi!

When I was younger, my family used to call me "Oyo".
Oyo is baby in Dusun language, and since at that time, I was still the youngest of all; I've became the baby girl. This name soon disappeared when my younger brother was born 7 years after me.

Soon I was called "Puteri"/"Datin".
In English, puteri is princess, while datin is like a lady. However, I wasn't called with those nicknames because of royalty, or anything of that sorts. It was more because I was really lazy, and apparently I wouldn't do a thing until someone told me to. I wouldn't even woke up in the morning if someone didn't woke me up first.

Hehe. I've got loads more, but I think these should be plenty for now. :)

See you all again soon!

18 Dec 2012

(30DBC) Day 18- How would a boy impress you?

A boy wouldn't impress me, but a man would if he's a gentleman.

However, being a "gentleman" is too.... hmm.... abstract?

So, a man who shows compassion towards others, and act on it, will definitely impress me.
